The S&P 500 was down 9 points, or 0.4%, to 2,054. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 74 points, or 0.4%, to 17,671 at the open. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite began the session down 24 points, or 0.5%, at 4,738.
