Monro Muffler Brake Inc. said Wednesday it has elected Brett Ponton as its new chief executive and president, replacing John Van Heel, who has opted not to renew his long-term contract when it expires on Oct. 1. Ponton was most recently CEO of American Driveline Systems, parent of AAMCO Transmissions & Total Car Care. Van Heel will remain with the company in an advisory role. Ponton will assume the role of president on Aug. 1 and become CEO on Oct. 2. Monro operates a network of 1,118 stores that offer undercar repair services, along with wholesale locations and other outlets selling tires and other services. Shares were not active premarket, but have fallen 20% in 2017, while the S&P 500 has gained 8%.
