France upgrades Q1 GDP growth to 0.4%, beating forecasts

The French economy expanded faster than initially forecast in the first quarter of the year, but still logged slower growth than its eurozone counterparts. The French statistics body INSEE said Tuesday France’s gross domestic product grew 0.4% in the first three months of the year, up from the 0.3% first estimated. That was better than the 0.3% forecast by analysts. The growth, however, was slower than the 0.5% growth seen in the fourth quarter of 2016 and below the eurozone average of 0.5%. France’s CAC 40 index traded 0.9% lower at 5,284.42 in early Tuesday trade.
