Amazon’s Jeff Bezos drops to 3rd-place on Bloomberg Billionaires Index

The selloff in Amazon.com Inc.’s stock over the past couple weeks has knocked Founder and Chief Executive Jeff Bezos down to third place on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index as of Friday morning. Bezos’s net worth declined $2 billion Thursday to $82.2 billion, while Spanish retail mogul Amancio Ortega’s net worth declined just $833 million to $82.8 billion to take over second place. Microsoft Corp.’s Bill Gates has a firm hold on first place at $90.0 billion. Bezos had spent half a day as the world’s richest man on July 27, when Amazon’s stock shot up as much as 2.9% to an all-time intraday high of $1,083.31, before reversing to close down 0.6%. The stock has now lost 8.8% since closing at a record $1,052.80 on July 26. Over the same time, the Nasdaq Composite has slipped 2.7% and the S&P 500 has eased 1.3%.
