VMware Inc. shares jumped in the extended session Thursday after the company’s second-quarter earnings beat Wall Street expectations. VMware shares rose 1.3% to $102.11 after hours. The virtualization company’s net income rose to $334 million, or 81 cents a share, compared to $265 million, or 62 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Adjusted earnings were $1.19 a share. Revenue increased 12% to $1.9 billion from $1.69 billion in the year-ago period. Analysts surveyed by FactSet had estimated adjusted earnings of $1.15 a share on revenue of $1.88 billion. Analysts model third-quarter adjusted earnings of $1.28 a share on sales of $$1.93 billion. VMware stock has gained 38.4% year-to-date, while the S&P 500 index has gained 8.9%.
