U.S. stocks open lower; IBM, United Technologies drag down Dow

U.S. stocks opened weaker on Tuesday as investors focused on a number of earnings from companies such as IBM and Harley-Davidson. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 119 points, or 0.7%, to 17,980, almost all of those losses stemming from big drops in IBM and United Technologies . The Nasdaq Composite retreated from its record closing level, trading 8 points, or 0.1%, lower at 5,212. The S&P 500 opened 2.5 points, or 0.1%, lower at 2,125.
