The S&P 500 opened 11 points, or 0.6%, lower at 1,990. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 77 points, or 0.5%, to 16,004 at the open. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite began the day down 34 points, or 0.7%, at 4,673.
