U.S. stocks open higher as oil climbs

U.S. stocks opened higher on Monday as investors interpreted the second presidential debate as solidifying chances of Clinton’s win in November. Higher oil prices helped boost energy companies. Investors prepared for the third-quarter earnings season, which unofficially kicks off with Alcoa Inc. results on Tuesday. The S&P 500 index opened 10 points, or 0.5%, higher at 2,164. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 100 points, or 0.6%, to 18,340. Meanwhile the Nasdaq Composite Index began the session up 28 points, or 0.6%, at 5,321.
