Stocks open slightly lower as investors watch North Korea

U.S. stock-market indexes opened modestly lower on Monday, with investors turning skittish after North Korean government over the weekend said it had successfully tested its largest ever nuclear bomb. Markets were closed on Monday in observance of Labor Day. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 71 points, 0.3%, to 22,916 at the open. The S&P 500 declined 6 points, or 0.3%, to 2,470. The Nasdaq Composite index dropped 13 points, or 0.2% to 6,422. Among the worst performers on Wall Street, United Technologies Corp. fell sharply after news that the industrial conglomerate reached a deal to buy airplane-parts maker Rockwell Collins Inc. for $23 billion, in the biggest aerospace deal in history.
