Australian golfer Jason Day not only held off U.S. player Jordan Spieth, who was targeting his third major victory of 2015, but widened a two-stroke lead entering Sunday’s final round to post a three-stroke win. Army parachutist dies of injuries sustained Saturday in Chicago show: report

One of the two parachutists involved in a midair collision Saturday during the Chicago Air and Water Show has died of his injuries, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting. Sgt. First Class Corey Hood, a member of the Army Golden Knights team, died at about 4 p.m. Sunday, the Cook County medical examiner’s office reported, the Sun-Times said. The second parachutist is a Navy Leap Frogs member who sustained a leg injury in a hard landing on North Avenue Beach. The Golden Knights parachutist landed unconscious at the base of an apartment building across Lake Shore Drive, having reportedly struck a terrace more than 20 stories above, according to a WLS-TV report.

AT&T had close relationship with NSA, report says

Newly disclosed documents show that the relationship between the National Security Agency and AT&T has been considered unique and especially productive, The New York Times reported, citing documents provided to it by the whistleblower Edward Snowden. One document described it as “highly collaborative,” while another lauded the company’s “extreme willingness to help,” the report said. AT&T’s cooperation has involved a broad range of classified activities, according to the documents, which date from 2003 to 2013, the report said. AT&T installed “far more” surveillance hubs than rival Verizon , the report added.

Soros takes Time Warner Cable stake, adds to Facebook, sells Alibaba in Q2

Billionaire investor George Soros took a new stake in Time Warner Cable , added shares of Facebook Inc. and unloaded most of his stake in Alibaba Group Holding in the second quarter, according to a 13F filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday. Soros bought nearly 2.5 million shares of Facebook worth $222.3 million as of June 30 and purchased 1.45 million shares of Time Warner Cable worth $259.2 million, according to filing-tracking firm Whalewisdom.com. Soros Fund Management also sold nearly 4.4 million shares of Chinese e-commerce Firm Alibaba, almost its entire stake.

Red Sox’s John Farrell diagnosed with lymphoma

Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell said Friday that he has been diagnosed with stage 1 lymphoma. Farrell, 53, announced at a pregame news conference at Fenway Park that he will take leave for the rest of the 2015 season to undergo treatment. Dan Loeb took 6.5 mln share stake in T-Mobile USA in second quarter

Dan Loeb’s Third Point hedge fund took a 6.5 million share stake in telecommunications firm T-Mobile USA in the second quarter, according to a 13F filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The filings detail holdings as of the end of the quarter by large investors.The T-Mobile stake ws worth $252 million on June 30. Loeb also took a new position in Sealed Air Corp. , buying 4.85 million shares valued at $249 million as of June 30. As previously disclosed, Loeb took a stake in pharmaceutical firm Baxter International , buying 4.85 million shares valued at around $310.4 million as of June 30. During the quarter, Loeb also cut his stake in lender Ally Financial by nearly two-thirds, selling 16 million shares, the filing showed.

Billionaire investor Carl Icahn sold his remaining stake in Netflix Inc. — some 1.4 million shares — during the second quarter, while buying about 1.1 million shares of Cheniere Energy Inc. worth about $74.5 million as of June 30, he disclosed in a 13F filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission Friday. The total value of his reported holdings declined by about 2.7% to $31.2 billion in the second quarter, from $32.05 billion in the first quarter.
