Ocwen Mortgage Modifications Double

The volume of government-supported loan modifications at Ocwen Loan Servicing has recently doubled and is expected to remain robust.

Beginning in July, the Ocwen Financial Corp. subsidiary saw the volume of loans modified under the Home Affordable Modification double.

The increased pace of HAMP activity is the result of the streamlining of the program in July 2015 that became effective on Jan. 1 of this year.

Dick’s Sporting Goods’ stock soars toward record close after Golfsmith bankruptcy

Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc.’s stock surged 2.4% in midday trade Thursday, putting it on track for a record close, in the wake Golfsmith’s bankruptcy filing. Deutsche Bank analyst Mike Baker wrote in note to clients Wednesday that a Golfsmith bankruptcy would be “an incremental positive” for Dick’s, as it would be “another step in the industry shakeout which is clearly helping [Dick’s] pick up market share.” The stock has soared 70% year to date, while the SPDR S&P Retail ETF has tacked on 1.5% and the S&P 500 has gained 4.7%.

Dozens of Hirings for New PennyMac Call Center

The opening of a new call center in the Northwest will result in the hiring of dozens of new employees by PennyMac Financial Services Inc.

On Wednesday, the Westlake Village, California-based organization reported that it is opening a new consumer-direct lending call center.

The new call-center facility will help boost business from the channel, which generated $1.5 billion in production during the third-quarter 2016.

PNC Chief Acknowledges HEL Process Too Slow

The chief executive officer of The PNC Financial Service Group Inc. told investors that turnaround on home-equity loans is too slow and needs to improve.

William S. Demchak, who is the CEO of the Pittsburgh-based bank-holding company, made the comments Wednesday at a Barclays investor conference.

He noted that a fifth of pre-qualified HEL applicants “walked away from us because we haven’t kept up with today’s customer expectations for speed of delivery.”

Natural-gas futures pares losses after EIA reports 62 billion-cubic-foot rise in U.S. supplies

Natural-gas futures pared some of their losses Thursday after the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported that supplies of the commodity rose 62 billion cubic feet for the week ended Sept. 9. That was in line with the average rise of between 59 billion and 63 billion cubic feet expected by analysts polled by S&P Global Platts. Total stocks now stand at 3.499 trillion cubic feet, up 184 billion cubic feet from a year ago and 299 billion cubic feet above the five-year average, the government said. October natural gas was down 1.2 cents, or 0.4%, from Wednesday’s settlement to $2.877 per million British thermal units. It traded at $2.838 before the data.
